Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. Ruth Roman is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. When she was a young girl, Roman's father, a carnival barker, passed away, which forced her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as cleaner or waitress so that they could survive. Ruth was a student at the school located in Boston's poorest tenement area. She only attended the school for two years, before going on to pursue an acting career. Her chosen path proved to be strewn with obstacles: in New York, she obtained an opportunity to pose for stills for a magazine about crime However, the stage was not a match for her. After working as a hat-check girl at a nightclub she quit and returned to Boston. In Boston, in which she was employed during the late night, she was an actor for New England Repertory Company and the rest of the time, was an usherette. She graduated with a diploma in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
